Authors Represented
My selection of authors is admittedly a subjective one, though hopefully in line
with the requirements of those for whom the program is intended. To have included
a more exhaustive list would have been to defeat the main object, which has been
to provide a manageable and useful reference facility for the authors more commonly
read in schools and universities. Even within my selection certain conscious omissions
will be noted, such as the letters of Isocrates and the fragments of the tragedians.
In many of these cases the number of Greek citations in the grammatical works is

Guiding Principles
The indexes for Goodwin's Grammar and Smyth's Grammar are completely new, and were compiled from a close scrutiny of the full texts of these two works. The indexes for Goodwin's Moods and Tenses and Denniston's Particles were taken from the existing book indexes.
All parts of the grammatical works have been included, not only those dealing with syntax. The references in Goodwin's Moods and Tenses include all examples quoted or cited in the Appendix, also those in the footnotes on pp. 92, 115, 152, 172 and 290, and the two dozen additional examples (from 1910) appended to the book index.
All references to Thucydides and Herodotus are now given by book, chapter and section
number. This is a welcome improvement on the existing scheme in all the works (except
for Denniston’s Particles), which quote only by book and chapter, thereby making
it time-
A total of 30 material errors / misprints have been identified in Goodwin and Smyth (4 in Goodwin’s Grammar, 2 in his Moods and Tenses, and 24 in Smyth.) Most of these errors have been corrected in Indexer, asterisks being used to signify where they occur. Visit the Indexer Corrigenda page for a complete conspectus.
